In this article I will explain the lyrics of Dissection’s last album, Reinkaos. This album is almost 12 years old, and I still haven’t found a comprehensive guide to all its lyrics, so I thought I might just write one.
Introduction
Some members of the band – most notably the vocalist Jon Nödtveidt – were involved in the Misanthropic Luciferian Order (MLO), which was later renamed to Temple of the Black Light.
The Order worships the cosmogonical Chaos / primal nothingness as the ultimate Truth, having an infinite amount of time and space dimensions – but at the same time it is devoid of any measure, being acausal (that is, not limited to the law of cause and effect), free from any restrictions, an active and dynamic eternity which came before the universe and shall come again.
In an interview, Nödtveidt explained: „MLO is a Chaos-Gnostic order, which seek the true light of Lucifer through the study, development and practice of all dark, gnostic and Satanic magical systems. Our goal is to create a synthesis between the dark traditions of all aeons, this way creating the occult keys that shall open the gates to the forthcoming endless dark aeon. My status within the order is the one of a full member of the second grade and a Priest of Satan. To become a candidate one must first of all already be an Anti-cosmic Satanist and actively practicing black magician. He/She must wholeheartedly sympathize and share the misanthropic and anti-cosmic values of the order, and then be ready to dedicate his/her entire existence to following his/her true will in accordance to the dark gods. Becoming an initiate is a long and hard process and can take several years.“
At the time when Jon went to prison, the MLO consisted of 3 members only. Many others went out of the Order because they were scared of that incident. When Jon got out from prison, he replaced Dissection’s entire lineup with Satanists.
My main source for this article was the MLO’s book Liber Azerate, so if you find some contradictions to your previous knowledge (mistranslations, errors in mythological references, the fact that everything is a dragon, etc.), it’s their fault!
Some recurring themes you will find are:
– Cosmos is enslaving and full of illusions, whereas Chaos is free, eternal and true, and therefore the return of Chaos is to be looked forward to
– Different mythologies have different names for the same things
– The attainment of gnosis is the highest achievement possible in human life
Furthermore, the number 11 is used everywhere: on the album cover, in the number of songs and throughout the album’s lyrics.
In this article I did not address the lines that, to me, seemed very straightforward. If I passed over something that you wanted to know about, let me know.
Album cover
The album title is spelled REINKAΩS, replacing the O with an Ω, which is often taken to symbolize The End. The meaning of „Reinkaos“ is „The Return to Chaos“.
The Hendecagram (11-vertices star polygon) represents the eleven anti-cosmic gods: Molok, Beelzebub, Rofocale, Astarot, Asmodeus, Belfegor, Baal, Abramelek, Lilith, Naamah and Satan.
1. Nexion 218
A Nexion is a magical portal, in this case it is a bridge or nexus between the „causal“ and „acausal“ realms, through which „acausal energy“ may be brought into the „causal“ realm.
„Current 218“ is another name for Chaos-Gnostic Satanism.
This song has only one line:
Zazas Zazas Nasatanada Zazas!
These words were written by Aleister Crowley, in his Liber 418 (The Vision and the Voice):
„Then the Devil of the Aethyr, that mighty devil Choronzon, crieth aloud, Zazas, Zazas, Nasatanada Zazas.“
His note on the text says:
„These words are from some vision of old time: by them Adam was said to have opened the gates of Hell. These are the traditional words which open the Abyss.“
Coincidentally, this is the 11th note on this chapter of the book.
According to Liber Azerate, this formula is called „The Key of the Abyss“. It opens the gates of Choronzon to the acausal plane and breaks the cosmic barriers. It is also used as an invocation of Choronzon, the Abyss-dweller, who is believed to be the last great obstacle between the adept and enlightenment.
2. Beyond The Horizon
Beyond the event horizon lies the void of my dreams
An event horizon is a boundary in spacetime beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. So „beyond the event horizon“ lies the cosmogonical Chaos.
The voracious gaping vortex distorts the cosmic laws
Drains the life of the universe, extinguishing the stars
The „voracious gaping vortex“ is a black hole.
Vedar-Gal Tiekals Somdus Azerate!
This formula is called „The Formula of Azerate“ and is used in rituals focused on the invocation of the eleven anti-cosmic gods. It is said to attract disharmonious Chaos energies.
This is the realm of Azerate, eleven as one
„Azerate“ is the occult name of the eleven anti-cosmic gods. The gematric value of Azerate (Azrat, אזראט) is 218 (hence the name „Current 218“), and 2 + 1 + 8 = 11.
Illuminated by the blackest flame
To transcend with dragon wings
From Liber Azerate:
„Den svarta flamman/den akausala elden, som är den ”andliga” essensen bakom eller bortom den medvetna människans kausala form, är vår länk till den ur-essens, som är kaos.“
[The black flame/the acausal fire, which is the „spiritual“ essence behind or beyond the causal form of conscious mind, is our link to the primal essence, which is Chaos.]
Therefore, to be illuminated by the black flame is to be united with one’s True Self.
Eleven to kill the Ten
The eleven anti-cosmic gods stand against the ten archangels: Metatron, Raziel (other times Jophiel), Tzaphkiel, Tzadkiel, Khamael, Raphael, Haniel, Michael, Gabriel, and Sandalphon. Similarly, the eleven Qlippoth stand against the ten Sephiroth (I will elaborate on that later).
Beyond the event horizon
Beyond the lights of the stars
A place of eternal freedom
The void where all illusions die
More descriptions of the cosmogonical Chaos.
Eleven shall bring The End
Indeed they shall!
**Starting at 4:20, it sounds like some additional words are sung at double speed, very low in the mix.
3. Starless Aeon
The seventh aeon will soon pass as it has been foretold
The false empires will crumble and all illusions shall be destroyed
The word „Aeon“ has many different meanings. From Liber Azerate:
„En ”eon” är inom den esoteriska läran benämningen på en spirituell kraft/energi som under en period på minst tvåtusen år genomsyrar, förändrar och styr det kausala planet.“
[An „aeon“ is, in the esoteric teaching of the term, a spiritual force / energy that for a period of at least two thousand years permeates, changes and controls the causal plane.]
In Gnosticism (along with some other traditions) aeons are considered to be different manifestations of the Demiurge, symbolized by the seven planetary spheres.
Sumerians and ancient Sanskrit texts interpreted the word „aeon“ differently from in Gnosticism, but according to Liber Azerate, all of these traditions share a common point – after seven aeons the original chaos restores all forms of existence to the formlessness that once was.
Daath – wisdom of the abyss is the key to the broken star
Eleven angles pathways of chaos will bring forth our most wrathful god
Qliphothic forces from beyond will usurp the tree of cosmic lies
The „tree of cosmic lies“ is the Kabbalistic Tree of Life that contains ten Sephiroth. The Qlippoth, sometimes spelled „Qliphoth“ or „Kliffot“ (though the correct pronunciation is with a hard „p“ sound), are usually placed beneath or behind the Tree of Life. They are the shells/shadows of the Tree of Life’s Sephiroth, where each Qlippah represents the chaotic force that is unleashed when its corresponding Sephirah is unbalanced.
The number 11 means, in the Tree of Life, the Sphere of Daath. Daath is not a real Sephirah, as it is usually not ascribed a number and has no equivalent planes. It is related to the Abyss, being located in the limit between the Superior Triad (Kether, Chokmah and Binah) and the lower seven Sephiroth located at the more manifested world.
An archangel is assigned to each Sephirah, and an anti-cosmic god is assigned to each Qlippah. Most traditions use a ten-Qlippoth model (one for each Sephirah), but of course, the MLO chose the eleven-Qlippoth model, where Thaumiel (meaning „The Twins of God“), the Qlippah that corresponds to the Sephirah of Kether, is split in two.
The „broken star“ is the eleven-angled broken pentagram that is used in MLO rituals. The broken pentagram is a good example of how the magical work of the MLO works: using a symbol with a completely different meaning from what was originally intended.
The sleeping dragon awakens smelling the elixir of our sacrifice
From Liber Azerate:
„Elixiret är de energiladdade och alkemiskt förädlade manliga och kvinnliga sexuella vätskorna.“
[The Elixir is the energy-charged and alchemically processed male and female sexual fluids.]
Elixirs were used in many MLO rituals. Often mixed with wine and menstrual blood, they are used to strengthen the power of rituals, to create talismans or to burn a candle. It is a simple way to concentrate magical will and to transform magical energy.
Dies Irae Dies Illa Solvet Cosmos In Favilla
Vocamus Te Aeshma-Diva
Replacing the word „sæclum“ of the famous Latin hymn Dies Irae with „cosmos“, these lines translate as „The day of wrath, that day will dissolve the Cosmos in ashes. We invoke thee, Aeshma-Diva.“
The „day of wrath“ referred to here is the event of great dissolution of the seventh aeon mentioned before, which in Sanskrit is called „mahapralaya“.
Aeshma is the Zoroastrian demon of wrath, opposed to Asha Vahishta, the lawful order of Cosmos.
The whole formula is called „The Formula of Wrath“ and according to Liber Azerate, aims to invoke Aeshma, and accelerate the beginning of the Great Dissolution.
This is the winter of the last aeon, the hungry end is coming soon
According to Liber Azerate, every aeon has a spring, a summer, an autumn and a winter. The winter brings the beginning of the end of an aeon, and it means dissolution and destruction of the ruling aeon’s prevailing order.
The snake will completely devour itself putting an end to the cycle of time
The self-eating snake, which in Greek is called ouroboros, appears in various traditions: in ancient Egypt, in alchemy and Gnosticism, in Norse mythology and even in the Yoga-kundalini Upanishad. It is often taken to symbolize introspection, eternal return or cyclicality.
In the Egyptian Enigmatic Book of the Netherworld, two serpents with their tails in their mouths are coiled around Ra-Osiris, which represents the beginning and the end of time.
The dragon mother will then resurrect and end this cosmic dream
The MLO worships two „dragon mothers“: Tiamat and Lilith, but Tiamat is the one that needs to be resurrected (since she was killed by Marduk), so it must be a reference to her.
4. Black Dragon
Tohu Tehom Theli Than Leviathan Tanin’iver Taninsam!
Tohu (תֹּהוּ) – another name for Chaos, and one of the three dark veils that were expelled from the Kabbalistic Ain Sof.
Tehom (תְּהוֹם) – another name for The Abyss. Tehom is derived from the Proto-Semitic word Tiham, which means „sea“ (in the sense of „sea of creation“) and Tiamat is derived from this word as well\. According to Liber Azerate, Tehom is a dragon and the power center located immediately above the top of the head.
Theli (תלי) – a crocodile/dragon mentioned in Sefer Yetzirah (in moden Hebrew the word „תנין“ means „crocodile“, but in Hebrew myths the crocodiles and snakes are interpreted as what today we might call „dragons“). Theli is depicted as holding the two edges of the universe and represents space (Sefer Yetzirah mentions the three „rulers“ of existence: Theli as space, Galgal as time, Lev as spirit).
Than (תַּן) – another name for Theli. As J. Daniel Gunther, one of the foremost authorities on the doctrine of Thelema, wrote in his book, The Angel & The Abyss:
„In the Talmud and the Bible, this dragon-like creature is called Than (tau-nun), „serpent“ (hence Leviathan), literally „twisted serpent.“ In the Sepher Yetzirah, he is called Theli (tau-lamed-yod).“
I highly doubt the correctness of this translation, as Than means „jackal“ in both modern and Biblical Hebrew, but what matters is that they viewed it as correct. Moreover, Aleister Crowley’s Liber LXV, chapter III, verse 4, reads as follows:
„But I remembered. Yea, Than, yea, Theli, yea, Lilith! these three were about me from of old. For they are one.“
Therefore, when Than appears in a Dissection song, we can be pretty sure they were referring to that serpent (although a jackal could be viewed as a reference to the Egyptian god Set, which can be seen as a composite of an aardvark, a donkey and a jackal).
Leviathan (לִוְיָתָן) – a dragon who rules the ocean of Chaos and is primarily an embodiment of destructive force. In modern Hebrew it simply means „whale“. From Liber Azerate:
„Leviathan kan liknas vid den uppväckte Ouroboros, som har släppt taget om sin egen svans och på så sätt brutit den slutna cirkeln och omvandlat tian till elvan.“
[Leviathan can be resembled as the revived Ouroboros, who has released his own tail and thus broken the closed circle and transformed the ten into the eleven.]
Tanin’iver (תניניעור / תַּנִּין עִוֵּר) – meaning „blind crocodile/dragon“, it is the escort of the matrimony of Lilith and Samael. Liber Azerate describes Tanin’iver as a black Kundalini or the black flame in its passive form, whose purpose is to connect opposites, to realize duality and establish a Chaos that would destroy the prevailing order.
Taninsam (תנינסם) – meaning „poison-crocodile“, in Emek Hamelech it is mentioned as another name for Tanin’iver:
„[…] התנין אשר בים הוא התנין עור הנקרא תַנִּינְּסַם“
[The crocodile which is in the sea is the blind crocodile called Taninsam…]
However, Liber Azerate explains that Lilith has two aspects: a young lady and an old lady, where the young lady is Naamah, the wife of Asmodeus, and the old lady is Taninsam, the wife of Satan.
This whole line is called „The Qlippotic Dragon Formula“ and is used in rituals meant to channel the energies of the death dragons. It can also be used to open the gates to the Qlippotic dimensions.
We evoke thee, O mighty dragon force
Awaken now from your aeonic slumber — rise up from the abyss
Another reference to the black Kundalini.
Lotan – Raise your seven heads and let the ancient ones rule again
Lotan is a servant of the sea god mentioned in the Ugaritic Baal Cycle. Depicted as a seven-headed dragon and represents the primary ocean of Chaos.
Apep – Dragon of devouring darkness, supreme ruler of emptiness
Open up your black diamond eyes and rejoice as Ra’s creation dies
Apep in Egyptian or Apophis in Greek is the deity who embodies Chaos, depicted as a snake/dragon.
The „black diamond“ is another name for the Philosopher’s Stone of the Alchemists.
There are many tales regarding Apep’s battles against Ra, but what they have in common is that Ra wins (sometimes by his own force, at other times by Set’s assistance) and every dawn is a celebration of Ra’s triumph.
Jormungand – Lord of the poisonous sea, fulfill the twilight prophecy
Jormungand (Jörmungandr) is the Norse equivalent of Leviathan. He is a sea serpent/dragon, child of Loki. Described as an enormous creature, so large that it was able to surround the earth and grasp its own tail (an example of an Ouroboros).
The „twilight prophecy“ is Ragnarök, which means „Twilight of the Gods“ (and other things, but that is outside the scope of this article).
In Ragnarök, Jörmungandr is predicted to poison Thor, which would eventually cause Thor’s death.
Note that the events of Ragnarök take place immediately after a great winter (Fimbulvetr or Fimbulvinter) – which is coherent with the lyrics of Starless Aeon.
Tiamat – Queen of the formless deep – The Eleventh seal is now broken
Hark to your children’s invocations and awaken from your dreadful sleep
Tiamat is the Babylonian personification of the primordial Chaos, and as mentioned above, her name is derived from the same Proto-Semitic word as Tehom.
She had created eleven monsters to battle the cosmic gods. According to some versions of the epic Enuma Elish, the eleven monsters were put in prison by Marduk. So to break the seals would be to set Tiamat’s „children“ free.
Typhon – Lord of dark desires, purify us with your smokeless fires
Make us at one with thyself and walk the earth once again
Typhon, in Greek mythology, is a snake/dragon and one of the original manifestations of Chaos.
Typhon desired to overthrow Zeus for the supremacy of the Cosmos. However, Zeus defeated Typhon and cast him into Tartarus (the deep abyss that is used as a dungeon, interpreted as the subconscious). Therefore, for him to „walk the earth once again“ is for him to escape Tartarus.
In Chaosophy, Typhon’s return is awaited. From Liber Azerate:
„Men Typhons makt är så pass stor att han från underjorden (det undermedvetna) fortsätter att kämpa mot den ovärdiga gudaskaran och påverka skeendet på det fysiska planet. Vid det slutliga kriget skall det kaos som Typhon och hans titaner representerar återvända och hämnas på de krafter som ersatte deras forna kaos med kosmisk ordning.“
[But Typhon’s power is so great that from the underworld (the subconscious) he continues to fight against the unworthy god and influences the physical realm. In the final war the chaos which Typhon and his titans represent shall return and take revenge on the forces which replaced their ancient chaos with cosmic order.]
5. Dark Mother Divine
This whole song is dedicated to Lilith, mostly in her Taninsam form.
She is the initiator of dark dreams
Lilith is believed to appear to men in their erotic dreams, which leads to her impregnation, and giving birth to demons.
Bringer of Luciferian light
The term „Luciferian light“ can be interpreted as either „knowledge“ or „rebellion“, and Lilith has both.
The Alphabet of Ben Sira tells the most famous myth of Lilith, which is quite similar to the myth of Lucifer: Lilith chooses not to serve under Adam, claiming that they are both equals. She is consequently punished by expulsion from the Garden of Eden and by having a hundred of her children die every day.
This myth also tells that she had the knowledge of God’s explicit name, and that she used it to escape from Adam:
„כיון שראתה לילית אמרה שם המפורש ופרחה באויר העולם.“
[Since Lilith saw (how it was), she uttered the explicit name (of God) and flew away into the air.]
Furthermore, some view Lilith as the Snake in the Garden of Eden, who brought the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
She is Satan’s mistress, a reflection of the Black Sun
Taninsam Lilith is considered to be the feminine reflection of Satan. From Liber Azerate:
„Då Satan, kliffots högste gud, beskådade denna demoniska kraft, som var den giftiga draken Lilith, blev han fylld av helvetiska begär och blev trollbunden av den mörka skönhet som han fann i denna feminina reflektion av sin egen anti-kosmiska ondska.“
[When Satan, the highest god of the Qlippoth, viewed this demonic power, the poisonous dragon Lilith, he was filled with hellish desires and became captivated by the dark beauty he found in this feminine reflection of his own anti-cosmic evil.]
Lilith – Our Dragon Goddess
Taninsam – Destroyer of lies
Yes, Lilith is also a dragon. Everything’s a dragon.
And as mentioned before, Taninsam is the elder Lilith.
Bringer of nocturnal light
Grant us the powers of the eyeless sight
The name „Lilith“ comes from the Proto-Semitic root L-Y-L (ל-י-ל), meaning „night“.
The „eyeless sight“ is another reference to the awakening of the Kundalini, which, to the MLO, is synonymous with opening the eyes of Tanin’iver.
Open now the gate that is your womb
The fruitful womb of Lilith is referred to as the gate of Gehinnom (Hell) in many rituals of the MLO.
We wash your lotus feet with blood
Many statues show Lilith as having bird-feet, and many birds are associated with the lotus, so by transitivity we may say that she has lotus feet.
Also note that the term „lotus feet“ is sometimes used to refer to the result of foot binding, which was practiced in China.
Ishet Zenunim Taninsam Ama Lilith, Liftoach Kliffot!
Ishet Zenunim (אשת זנונים), meaning „whore“ (or, literally, „promiscuous woman“), is another name of Lilith. The Kabbalah (specifically the Zohar and Pardes Rimonim) often describes Ishet Zenunim as a snake/dragon.
Ama is a common Qabalistic mistransliteration of אמא, ee-ma, meaning „mother“. The Qabalist and occultist Dion Fortune refers to Ama as the „Dark Sterile Mother“.
Liftoach (לפתוח) means „to open“, though in this case the grammatically correct word to use would be „pit’chi“ (פתחי). The MLO is a Swedish order, and they are not native Hebrew speakers.
This whole line is called „The Formula of Lilith“, the purpose of which is to open the gates of Gehinnom. It is used especially in nocturnal rituals, most notably sexual magic rituals.
**Some extra whispers are heard starting at 3:37, again very low in the mix. It sounds like they are repeating the Formula of Lilith slowly.
Grant us the blessings of the dark bleeding moon
The „Blood of the Black Moon“ is another name of the menstrual blood used to make the Elixir mentioned in Starless Aeon.
In ancient traditions, menstrual blood was considered to possess destructive force, drive dogs mad and give control over bloodthirsty wolves.
Virgin, mother, whore and crone
References to all forms/aspects of Lilith, being an expansion of the concept of the triple-goddess.
Open now wide the Kliffot’s shell – Open wide the gates of Hell!
Again, expressing the connection between Lilith, the Qlippoth and the gates of Gehinnom.
6. Xeper-I-Set
This song is dedicated to Set, the Egyptian god of the desert, storms, disorder and violence, in all his various forms (i.e., different names or gods that represent the same concepts as Set).
Master – Typhon – Apophis
In earlier myths, Set and Apep are two separate beings: Set is depicted piercing Apep with a spear, thus protecting the sun god Ra.
However, later myths turned Set into a villain, and some traditions consider Set and Apep to be the same being, due to their similarities:
– Both of them are rulers of darkness
– They both crave war, Apep fights Ra, the sun god, and Set fights Horus, whose right eye was considered to be the sun and one of his forms (Heru-pa-khered or Hoor-paar-kraat) is in the form of the rising sun
– One of the abodes of Apep is the thunder cloud, to which Set is attributed as the god of storms
Dweller beyond the seven stars
The „seven stars“ are the Pleiades cluster. Some Setians take this cluster to symbolize Set or the black flame because it never sets (no pun intended), hence free from the regular cycles of nature.
Kenneth Grant, the founder of Typhonian Ordo Templi Orientis, explains that Typhon is „The feminine aspect of Set; sometimes typified as the Mother of Set in her role of Goddess of the Seven Stars, of which Set is the Eighth.“ Hence „beyond“ them.
Crowned red king – Set-heh – Amam
The color of red is sacred to Set. Set is the god of the desert, which is called the Red Land, and the lord of the Red Crown of Lower Egypt.
Of the eternal black skies
Thou art the rayed one – Erbeth – Saatet-ta
Lord of the shining force of night
Set was seen as a god of the night sky.
The wrathful majesty – Bolchoseth – Hau-hra
Of anti-cosmic might
The meaning of the names that appear in the first verse:
Set-heh = Set the Eternal
Amam = Devourer
Erbeth = (Set,) The Creator of New Ideas
Saatet-ta = Darkener of Earth
Bolchoseth = Baal, The Lord, who attacks like Set
Hau-hra = Backward Face
They are all identical, and the diversity of the name and the series of exploits is due merely to the accidents of time and space.
Calling upon thee amidst the chaotic angles
Describes the setting of an MLO temple.
O fiery lord of the black sun,
I seek the bloodstained grail of gnosis
So that I may crush the archons‘ cosmic lie
In Gnosticism, an Archon is a servant of the Demiurge. However, Liber Azerate adds that an archon is one of the seven aeons (mentioned in Starless Aeon):
„Dessa sju eoner brukar kallas för ”Arkoner”, vilket betyder ”härskarna”, och brukar tillskrivas funktionen att genom att i sju cirklar omge skapelsen hålla människans ande fängslad i det kosmiska fängelset.“
[These seven aeons are commonly referred to as „Archons“, which means „rulers“, and are usually attributed the function of holding the human spirit captive in the cosmic prison by the seven circles surrounding creation.]
Break the laws of Maat
Ma’at is regarded as the concepts of truth, order, harmony, law etc. and as a goddess who personifies these concepts.
So in this context, the „laws of Ma’at“ are simply the cosmic laws.
With a glance of thy all seeing eye
There’s nothing special about the eye of Set, so it is probably a reference to the eye of Horus, which symbolizes healing, restoration and providence (hence „all-seeing“).
In one myth, during a fight for the throne, Set gouged out Horus’s left eye.
In the aforementioned myth where Set protects Ra, Set was represented with a falcon’s head, taking the guise of Horus.
So in both cases, the eye of Horus is the eye of Set.
I invoke thee, possessor of all hidden keys
The „hidden keys“ are the keys to the locked gates of the other side (Sitra Ahra).
God of the unknown and the lawless ecstasies
Here „lawless“ doesn’t only mean „rebellious“, but also „devoid of physical (cosmic) laws“
Xeper, Xeper-I-Set [x3]
Xeper-I-Apep
Xeper-I-(Set|Apep) means „I become (Set|Apep)“. Liber Azerate does a great job explaining this:
„Kosmos är och kosmos förgås, medan kaos var, kaos är och kaos, för evigt, blir. Därför Xeper-I-Set, för att sedan Xeper-I-Apep. Bli gud, transcendera kosmos och bli sedan ett med kaos’ eviga, obegränsade, blivande.“
[Cosmos is and Cosmos perishes, while Chaos was, Chaos is and Chaos, forever, becomes. Therefore Xeper-I-Set, and then Xeper-I-Apep. Become God, transcend Cosmos and then become one with Chaos‘ eternal, unlimited future.]
I am the cruel one, Isfet lives in me
Isfet means „chaos“ or „violence“, and is the counterpart of Ma’at.
While Ma’at is regarded as both a principle and a goddess, Isfet is regarded only as a concept. It is believed that the physical representation of Isfet was through Set.
I am the murderer who refuses to submit
Jon might well say this!

I become thee,
I am one with he who grants me the freedom which I seek
Mentioning the concept of becoming once more, to indicate the ritual’s successful ending.
The tunnel of darkness reveals the light
The Qlippoth reside in what is known as the Tunnels of Set. These Tunnels are behind or beneath the Day/Light Side of the Tree of Life.
As I enter the desert – The desert of Set – The kingdom of eternal night!
Referring to Set as the god of the desert and the night.
7. Chaosophia
The meaning of this song’s name is „Wisdom/Knowledge of Chaos“, and it serves as an introduction to the next song.
This song has only a single line:
Lucifer Illuminatio Mea!
Which means „Lucifer, My Light“.
This formula is called „The Illuminati Formula“ and is used under meditative rites to attain wisdom and enlightenment.
8. God Of Forbidden Light
This song is dedicated to Lucifer, the rebellious light-bringing fallen angel who refused to serve God in heaven (according to some Christian interpretations).
If you’ve come this far in the article, this song should be fairly easy to understand, so I will only elaborate on three lines:
Titanic Prometheus – God of forbidden light
Prometheus, in Greek mythology, is the Titan who stole the fire from the gods and gave it to humanity, enabling the progress of civilization. He was consequently sentenced to eternal torment.
Both Lucifer and Prometheus were rebellious light-bringers who were punished for defying the supreme god, and therefore they are regarded as the same being under different names.
Black Sun of dark mysteries – Restore the dragon’s sight
The dragon whose sight is to be restored is Tanin’iver. I will elaborate on the meaning of that in my comments on the next (not purely instrumental) song, Internal Fire.
Lylusay Tateros Volt Sids Lucifer!
This formula is called „The Formula of Lucifer“ and is used to bring enlightenment and to strengthen the inner fire of Chaos.
It is also used to open the gate to a thing called „the southern throne“, which is one of the „five black thrones“ that correspond to the lines of the pentagram. The southern throne corresponds to fire and to Lucifer.
10. Internal Fire
This song is about the awakening of the black Kundalini. Contrary to the regular Kundalini, which, when awakened, causes one to be filled with love and compassion, the black Kundalini is chaotic and wrathful.
Tanin’iver Liftoach Nia!
Tanin’iver open your eyes
„Tanin’iver Liftoach Nia“ is another error-ridden Hebrew expression. In Liber Azerate the word „Nia“ is translated to „eye“. They had read the Hebrew word for eye (עין, A’in) backwards, and got Nia. Maybe they didn’t know that Hebrew is read from right to left; maybe they had a problem with copying Hebrew text. The word „Liftoach“ is read properly (though grammatically incorrect in this case), so these two words were probably translated separately, maybe even by two different persons.
I would translate „Tanin’iver, open your eyes!“ to „Tanin’iver, p’kach einecha!“ (תַּנִּין עִוֵּר, פְּקַּח עֵינֶיךָ).
Originally, Tanin’iver is blind because he was created without eyes. However, according to Liber Azerate, Tanin’iver is merely asleep: this formula is called „The Formula of Tanin’iver“ and it aims to wake up the blind dragon who slumbers in the darkness of the black flame.
According to Pardes Rimonim, if Tanin’iver could see, the world would be destroyed:
„[…]והוא עור. שאם היה בעל עינים היה הזווג הטמא שלם חס ושלום והיו מחריבים העולם.“
[[…]And [Tanin’iver] is blind. For if he had eyes, the unholy marriage (of Lilith and Samael) would be complete, God forbid, and they would destroy the world.]
Liber Azerate has pretty much the same explanation, saying that when the eyes of the dragon are opened, the most powerful of Satan’s and Lilith’s offsprings would be brought into physical manifestation and set the Cosmos on fire.
One of the MLO’s most important black magic works is „to revive Tanin’iver [or open his eyes, or restore his fertility], which can be described as the black anti-cosmic Kundalini, and thus, in the name of Satan, unite Gamaliel [Lilith’s Qlipah] with Thaumiel [Satan’s Qlipah]“.
Crush the barriers, crack your shell
Turn the forbidden inner keys
These are the steps that mark the initiation of the process of Qlippotic Alchemy (to „crack the shells“ is – almost literally – to open the Qlippoth).
Dynamic overload to serve the wrath
Of my merciless release
The event of Kundalini awakening is often explained as an overload of one’s nervous system.
Charged with fury – Streaming forth acausal energy
Microchaos – Reinforced in concealed purgatory
Microchaos is the Chaos within the spirit of Man, which is brought forth when the abundance of acausal energy awakens the black Kundalini.
Awakened by my will to power
The will to power is a Nietzschean concept: striving to reach the highest possible position in life, which, to the MLO, would mean awakening the black Kundalini.
Awaken me to ride the Internal Fire
To ride the Internal Fire is to ride on the back of the – seeing – Tanin’iver, once the black Kundalini is awakened.
I am the One to set my spirit free (666)
The Beast shall break its chains of cosmic tyranny
This is, of course, a reference to the Book of Revelation, that goes with a message that the awakening of the black Kundalini is an individual task.
Internal burst – Electric sight
Atazoth!
Increasing flames of alchemy
Blackest flash – Infernal light
Ignites my soul with flames of ecstasy
More descriptions of the „dynamic overload“ of the nervous system.
„Atazoth“ means all that is dear to the MLO: the production of the philosopher’s stone, the rise of the acausal energy streams, the opening of Tanin’iver’s eyes, bringing the outer chaos into the macrocosm, the anti-cosmic transcendence, the return to Chaos and acausal existence.
This formula is called (not surprisingly) „The Formula of Atazoth“ and is used during power-rituals. It increases the acausal energy flow from the pandimensional self into the limited causal self, bringing Chaos into the microcosm.
Rise with your formless fires
Through the seven gates
Here the „seven gates“ are more than just the gates of Hell: it refers to the seven chakras located along the spine to be opened in order for the black Kundalini to be awakened.
Note that Liber Azerate likens the union of Kali (Muladhara) and Shiva (Sahasrara) to the union of Lilith (Gamaliel) and Satan (Thaumiel), and both systems are used in the MLO’s sex magic work.
Reclaim your sight
That brilliant eye
In rage it liberates
As I mentioned, the black Kundalini is not loving and compassionate, but wrathful.
**Some extra whispers are heard, starting at 2:43, the first of which is (again) „Tanin’iver Liftoach Nia“.
Tanin’iver – The serpent power is rising up my spine
The Kundalini energy is often called the „Serpent Power“ („Kundali Shakti“ in Sanskrit). The Kundalini is often described as the figure of a female serpent coiled around the spine, and the process of Kundalini awakening is done from the lowest chakra (Muladhara) to the highest (Sahasrara), therefore „rising up one’s spine“.
11. Maha Kali
This song is dedicated to Kali, the Hindu goddess of death, destruction, time, transformation and liberation.
Her common image shows her as having four arms, but in her Maha Kali („Great Kali“) form she has ten arms, ten legs and ten faces.
Maha Kali, dark mother dance for me
In the Devi Mahatmya, Kali consumes the demon Raktabija and all his duplicates, and then dances on their bodies. She dances in ecstasy and is out of control. Shiva, her consort, fearing that she would not stop until she destroyed the world, lay down on the battlefield and she stepped on him. Kali realized that she had gone too far, and calmed down.
Let the purity of your nakedness awaken me
Kali’s nakedness is very often mistaken by Westerners to represent sexuality. However, this line gets it perfectly right: her nakedness – just like her free, long hair – is a symbol of purity, because Kali represents the ultimate Truth (Brahman), Nature or „the way things are“.
Yours are the fires of deliverance which shall bring me bliss
Yours is the cruel sword which shall set my spirit free
Kali’s fires are the fires of cremation grounds, and her sword represents the severing of ignorance and ego.
Devourer of life and death who rule beyond time
In thy name I shall fulfil my destiny divine
Maha Kali, formless one, destroyer of illusion
Your songs forever sung, the tunes of dissolution
In the Mahanirvana-tantra, Shiva praises Kali:
„[…]Thou art the Origin of and devourest all things[…]“
„Re-assuming after Dissolution Thine own form, dark and formless, Thou alone remainest as One ineffable and inconceivable. Though having a form, yet art Thou formless[…]“
Kalika, black tongue of fire, embrace me
Kali appears in the Mundaka Upanishad as the black tongue of the seven flickering tongues of Agni, the Hindu god of fire.
Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
„Jai“ means „Glory to“ or „Hail“ in Hindi, and Kalika is another name for Kali, meaning „the black one“.
Smashana Kali, I burn myself for thee
„Smashana Kali“ means „Kali of the Cremation Ground“, so it makes sense to call her that when one „burns“ oneself.
O dark mother, hear me calling thee
Mahapralaya, bring to me
Through all illusions I shall see
I shall cremate this world and set my essence free
As I mentioned in the comment on Starless Aeon, Mahapralaya is the Great Dissolution where all 14 realms (10 lower realms and 4 higher realms) are destroyed.
Therefore, in this verse Kali is requested to bring The End.
„O Kali, thou art fond of cremation grounds
So I have turned my heart into one, that thou may dance there unceasingly.
O mother, I have no other fond desire in my heart.
Fire of a funeral pyre is burning there.“
This text was taken verbatim from the Devotional Songs of Rama Prasada (Ram Prasad).
Jai Maha Kali, Jai Ma Kalika [x2]
Kali Mata, namo nama [x2]
The prefix „Ma“ and the suffix „Mata“ both mean „Mother“.
„Namo namah“ means „We bow/salute to thee“ in Sanskrit (repeated twice in honor).
Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
At your left hand for endless victory
Maha Kali, come to me
Kali has (at least) two left hands. The object that consistently appears at one of her left hands is the severed head, and not her sword (images of Kali in her terrible form put the sword at her upper right hand).
So in this verse Kali is requested to bring forth the microchaos, whereas in the next one:
Jai Kalika! Jai Kali!
Mahapralaya will set our spirits free
Maha Kali, come to me
She is asked to bring forth the macrochaos.
Way to end an album.
Conclusion
As I’ve written in the introduction, there are some lines that I did not address in this article. Let me know if you seek some of these lines‘ interpretations.
Dissection are considered to be the predecessors of many contemporary metal bands; the champions of the previous generation of End-bringing Swedes. To sum it up, their method was: „Work for the microchaos; wish for the macrochaos.“
But is that the most efficient way to go?
Think about it.
